My Favorite Bible Study Supplies

Here are some of my favorite supplies and resources to use when doing my bible study routine! All of these materials truly help and inspire me to grow deeper and learn more intentionally about God’s word. Getting my heart in the posture of receiving His word is an essential step in my quiet time with the Lord, setting my heart and mind on things above. I hope some of these will help you as well!

1) Prayer Journal

I love opening and closing my bible study routine with prayer! Intentionally speaking to the Lord and asking Him to open my heart to receive His word and teach me more about who He is and what He’s done for me is so comforting. Being open and honest with God about what I may be feeling, where I am in my day, what I’m thankful for as well as seeking His guidance all throughout my life is what I strive to pray about during this time. I use the Coffee and Bible Time Prayer Journal! It’s perfect for note taking and writing down prayers. I love how organized it is with tabs on the side for different categories provided in the journal and it has structured layouts and formats on each page to help guide you in prayer, taking notes and studying the bible. Find more information about it here!

2) Bible

I currently use the English Standard Version (ESV) single column journaling bible. Personally, it is the easiest for me to read while studying the word and I love how it provides lined margins on all pages for me to easily take quick notes while reading. I enjoy how practical and organized it is because I feel like I have a mini notebook inside of my bible with the extra space for journaling! I always bring this bible to church with me because I only need to carry one thing in with me, so simple! I bought this bible from a creator on Etsy because I had my name engraved on the front cover, but you can purchase this version of the bible in other stores or websites as well. I also put tabs on the side of my bible to represent the books of the bible. It helps me to have an easy guide on where to turn to find a certain book of the bible while I’m studying.

3) The Extras

The extra supplies and pretty things I use during my bible study routine is not an essential part of studying or reading the bible. Reading the word of God requires only you and the bible! And prayer does not require a journal or notebook, you can pray anywhere and at any time and God hears and sees you always. He knows your thoughts and your heart’s intentions while reading His word. The word of God and prayer is powerful all on its own. Glory to God that He is always near to us!

Some extra things I enjoy using while studying the bible is washi tape, colored markers, flair pens and sticky notes! I incorporate these small things into my bible study routine because I love being creative and having fun while studying the word. It makes me feel like I’m making my bible study personal to me and my relationship with the Lord. But sometimes when I don’t have the extra time, I won’t use these things and that’s okay too!

I hope some of these resources will help you make your bible study routine more personal and intentional with the Lord. I encourage you to think about starting a prayer journal! You can purchase the one that I recommended or simply get a notebook and start writing prayers to the Lord. For me, it has been so sweet to look back on older prayers that I have written and see how God has answered them now in my life. He is always faithful in every season! He desires to hear from you and hear what your heart is feeling.
