How to Create a God Centered Night Routine

If you’re anything like me, not every night of the week looks the same! Some nights you may have previously made plans or something unexpected may come up. But on those evenings where you feel like you’re lost or searching for something to keep you accountable, it can be helpful to have a guide and focus on a simple routine that is God centered and easy to implement on any night of the week. Here are some steps I recommend!

Share a Meal with Someone

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

1 Peter 4:8-9

Being in community with others is what we were made for! Our hearts long for human interaction and to be seen and heard by others. We all crave to be a part of something and share a life with others. Believe me, I know it can be scary or nerve racking to open your heart and be vulnerable with your family, friends and loved ones near you but the truth is we all need each other. You weren’t made to live this life alone! God gave us each other to encourage, love and confide in one another. There are so many people around you who care so deeply for you, but are you fully letting them in?

Read the Word

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

I know it can be intimidating to read a whole chapter of the Bible each night, but it doesn’t have to be! Start off small, set a small goal for yourself and read only a couple of verses or small passages at night. If you’re not sure where to start, you can always start in the beginning with Genesis or consider starting with one of the gospels to learn about who Jesus is and how He died for you, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Whenever I don’t know where to read in the Bible, I love reading a daily devotional book! These are typically based on short verses from the Bible followed by a brief explanation of the provided scripture and how you can implement it into your daily life. It can be such a helpful guide and resource to use if you’re not sure where to begin reading in the Bible. Remember not to be too hard on yourself or put a lot of pressure on this step. It’s okay if you don’t get the time to read the word every day because we aren’t meant to be perfect! We will make mistakes throughout life and lose track of our time. Remember that tomorrow is a new day, a fresh start and it takes time to build a stable habit and routine!

Prayer

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16

Before you go to sleep and end your day, talk to God through prayer! Your prayer to God doesn’t need to have big or fancy words, simply talk to God as you would talk to a friend. God already knows what you’re thinking, what’s on your heart and how your day went but He desires to hear from you and have a relationship with you. He cares about you so much! Release your day and troubles that you may have had onto the Lord. He is bigger and stronger than any problem you are facing in your life. Ask the Lord for wisdom and guidance on what should do! Thank the Lord for something that He’s done for you or given to you. Pray for those around you as well! Prayer is a personal connection and conversation with the creator of you and the world and God loves to talk with you. Let go of control and release your worries on the Lord. He can handle anything you lay down at Him!

I hope these steps and actions were helpful for you! I challenge you to at least implement one of these into your daily night routine and set small goals for yourself. Don’t put pressure on yourself to do all these things each night because I know it can be hard! Life can get busy, and things may be changing but remember who is in control of everything. God will always take care of you, trust Him.
